The Golden Tarot by Mary Packard

The tarot deck included in this beautiful set was commissioned around 1451 by the Visconti and Sforza families, and it is one of the oldest tarot decks in existence. This beautiful gift box holds the book and card deck side by side, with a purple satin reading cloth folded and placed underneath the book. The Tarot is much more than mere pictures on cards, the pictures are physical symbols for spiritual concepts. The images are symbolic representation of archetypal forces and/or beings which have always existed and have been identified and passed on to us by ancient initiates and which provide a focus for us to use in self-initiation, spiritual development, and the perception of hidden wisdom. The tarot deck included in this beautiful set was commissioned around 1451 by the Visconti and Sforza families, and it is one of the oldest tarot decks in existence. The images on the cards have been faithfully recreated, showing members of the Sforza and Visconti families in period garments. The borders of the elegant cards are adorned with gold metallic ink.

The accompanying book provides a history of Visconti-Sforza cards, 35 of which are now in the collection of the Pierpont Morgan Library in New York City. The symbolism of the different cards is described, along with explanations of different ways to arrange the cards when seeking information about different aspects of life. This beautiful gift box holds the book and card deck side by side, with a purple satin reading cloth folded and placed underneath the book.

Tarot de Maria Celia by Lynyrd-Jym Narciso

Popular tarot artist Lynyrd-Jym Narciso has focused his creative talents on modernizing Marseilles Tarot. Tarot de Maria Celia was inspired by several variants of the traditional Marseilles style yet brings its own uniquely charming features to this new deck. The card illustrations feature a fresh pastel color palette with “faux vintage” accents. In keeping with the European tradition, the card titles are presented in French. This pocket sized 80-card deck in a tin comes with a 56-page instruction booklet.

On reading with Marseilles decks (from the Tarot de Maria Celia Booklet). Most modern Tarot decks have fully illustrated Pips—that is, the cards of the Aces to the Tens each are depicted with pictorial scenes, more like the Court cards and the Trumps or the Major Arcana, and unlike those in normal playing cards. The Marseille cards are more like those of normal playing cards—with suit symbols carefully arranged and decorated with scroll and leaf elements, among others. This gives the students a twofold advantage, at least. First, it becomes easier for the student to meditate on the meaning of each of the Pips without being encumbered by fixed implications suggested by a scenic illustration. For example, what might the combination of the number eight and the suit of Swords mean? Secondly, the almost abstract quality of the decorative arrangement and elements of the Pips are good grounds for a more intuitive, if abstract, approach to reflecting on the cards’ meanings.
