Awakening, Balance, and New Growth

Best Time to Ritual: Night of Sunday, 21 September 2025
Special Alignment: Spring Equinox and Virgo New Moon Solar Eclipse (Monday, 22 September, 6–8am NZ)

This weekend, the Spring Equinox and Virgo New Moon Solar Eclipse converge — a rare threshold where balance, shadow, and light meet. The Earth turns toward growth, blossoms awaken, and for a fleeting moment, the Sun is veiled by the Moon. It is both stillness and beginning, a cosmic pause where we may realign with truth and plant intentions in fertile soil.

The Spring Equinox, also called Ostara, marks the balance between light and dark — day and night are equal before the scales tip toward the growing light. Seeds stir, blossoms unfurl, and the earth quickens with life. Ostara invites us to honour both shadow and light within ourselves, to plant new intentions, and to celebrate the fertile energy of beginnings.

“Step into balance. Plant your dreams. Grow in harmony with the light.”

Expect fresh energy, renewal of spirit, and a call to simplicity, joy, and creation. This is a time to bless what is awakening and tend the seeds of your becoming.

You Will Need
A quiet space filled with spring light or fresh air
A candle (green, yellow, or white)
Seasonal foods of contrast (dark/earthy and light/fresh — e.g. nuts and berries, bread and fruit, chocolate and honey, cooked root vegetable and raw greens)
Pen and paper
Your tarot or oracle deck
Optional herbs: rosemary, chamomile, vervain
Optional crystals: Rose Quartz, Moss Agate, Citrine, Green Aventurine
Optional extras: flowers, eggshells, feathers, or seasonal decorations for your altar

Create Your Sacred Space
Cleanse your space with smoke, sound, or intention. Place your tools around you: candle, water, foods, seed or egg, soil, and tarot deck. Add crystals or flowers if you wish. Light the candle and take slow, deep breaths. Imagine your body rooted in the soil while reaching toward the sun.

Say aloud or whisper:
"I call upon the Spring Equinox, Ostara, balance of day and night.
May this be a space of harmony, awakening, and renewal.
May all that is planted be nourished in light.
May my spirit grow in joy and balance."

Meditation
Sit comfortably with your feet on the earth. Close your eyes and take three steady breaths. Visualise roots extending deep into the soil, grounding you in the turning of the seasons. Above, the Sun shines at the centre of a clear spring sky. Feel its warmth enliven every part of you.

Now, watch as the Moon glides across the Sun. Light softens, shadows deepen, and a hush falls. Time seems to pause. You stand at the centre of the eclipse, balanced between dark and light, ending and beginning.

Feel the shadow gently drawing away old patterns, doubts, or clutter. Watch them dissolve into darkness, released with grace. In your chest, a small flame glows — the light of clarity and renewal. With each breath, it grows brighter, steady and golden, filling you with strength, purpose, and peace.

This is your seed of intention, waiting to be planted in the new season. As the shadow passes and the Sun’s brilliance returns, imagine this seed sinking into the fertile earth within you. Breathe life into it, trusting it will grow in balance.

Place your hands on your heart or belly. When ready, gently open your eyes.

Equinox Meal — Tasting Balance

First Taste — The Shadow
Take one dark, bitter, or cooked food.
Eat it slowly. Feel it in your body.
Whisper: “I honour the shadow within me — the fears, the doubts, the hidden truths. They are mine.”

Second Taste — The Light
Take something light, sweet, or raw.
Taste its brightness, freshness.
Whisper: “I honour the light within me — the joys, the dreams, the hopes. They are mine.”

Third Taste — The Union
Combine the opposites in a single bite.
Chew with awareness of both existing together.
Whisper: “I integrate the shadow and the light. I am whole.”

Set your food down. Close your eyes. Imagine yourself as the sky — the shadow moving across, the light returning. Sit in stillness for a few minutes, breathing into your belly.

What seeds or intentions am I planting this season?
What balance between shadow and light do I feel in myself now?
What needs to be cleared to make space for growth?
How do I wish to nurture joy, harmony, and renewal in daily life?
What does blossoming feel like in body, mind, and spirit?
