My Story

Hi, I'm Denita — tarot reader, teacher, creative soul, and the ritual-loving heart behind The Woo-Woo Shop.

My journey with tarot began in the early 2000s when I was gifted my very first deck. What started as curiosity quickly became a lifelong passion.

This photo takes me back to those early days, reading cards from my beloved Mythic Tarot deck while my flatmate was dressed as Death. Yes, I have always had a slightly unusual sense of humour.

At the time, I was working in Auckland, and just around the corner was a small metaphysical shop run from a woman’s home. Whenever I had the chance, I’d pop in and spend hours browsing books, tarot decks, crystals, and all sorts of spiritual treasures. 

In 2002, I left Auckland and moved to Rotorua. Looking back, it was one of the best decisions I ever made. It gave me the space to explore who I was, what I believed, and what I wanted from life.

Tarot & Oracle cards became a constant companion. I read cards daily, devoured books, attended workshops, and followed every thread of learning that sparked my curiosity. Spirituality and creativity became deeply intertwined, each helping me understand the other.

One of the most transformative experiences on my journey was attending Juliet Batten's Sacred Art of Ritual Workshop. It helped me recognise the areas of my life that weren't aligned with who I truly was and gave me the tools to create meaningful change. Once I started making those changes, things began to flow in a way they never had before.

By 2018, I realised there was something missing for spiritual seekers here in New Zealand. So many of us were looking overseas for quality tarot decks, ritual tools, and spiritual supplies. I wanted to create an online space where people could easily find beautiful, meaningful products without having to search halfway around the world. So, on 8 February 2018, The Woo-Woo Shop was born.

My vision was simple: create a welcoming space where beginners feel comfortable exploring their spirituality and experienced practitioners can find tools that genuinely excite and inspire them.

Every product in the shop has been personally chosen by me. If it's here, it's because I believe in it. I don't fill shelves for the sake of it. I select each deck, crystal, candle, book, and ritual tool with care, intention, and a genuine love for what I do.

Today, alongside the shop, I offer tarot readings, workshops, and seasonal ritual gatherings throughout the year. Bringing people together to connect, learn, and honour life's cycles has become one of the most rewarding parts of my work. Teaching and sharing what I've learned has become just as important to me as providing the tools themselves.

For me, spirituality should be joyful, accessible, and deeply personal. There is no one-size-fits-all spiritual path. The best path is the one that feels right for you.
